Claim Denied - How to Appeal
If the insurance company denies your application for disability benefits, or discontinues your disability benefits, then you have the option to appeal their decision.
The appeals process is set out in your insurance policy. There is no standard appeal process - it differs from policy to policy. Some policies have complex internal appeals procedures, whereas others have no internal process at all. If you disagree with the insurance company's decision to deny you benefits, you always have the option of bringing a lawsuit against them for failure to pay benefits.
In all cases, however, there will be strict deadlines you must meet. This is why it is important for you to get a copy of your disability insurance policy and read it very carefully.
