Canada Pension Plan (CPP) Disability Claims
If you are unable to work because of an injury or medical condition, then you may qualify for Canada Pension Plan (CPP) disability benefits. The CPP disability benefit provides income replacement payments to people who become unable to work because of illness or disability. The amount of the monthly payment depends on the amount the person has contributed to CPP, but will typically be between $600-$1,000.
Not everyone is entitled to receive CPP disability benefits. In order to qualify for the CPP Disability Benefit you must meet the following conditions:
- be 18-65 years old;
- have paid into CPP program for the minimum qualifying period; and,
- be disabled as defined by CPP legislation.
The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) Disability Benefits Program is administered by Social Development Canada (SDC), which is a federal government department. SDC was formerly called Human Resource Development Canada or HRDC.
